Having been gameless the week before, our inaction allowed the hosts, Raith Rovers, to close the gap at the bottom of the SFL Premiership to just 3 points. If ever a match deserved the moniker of being a 6 pointer, then this was surely it.
A Killie win would have lifted us 6 points clear & given our season another shot in the arm. A win for the home team, would see us separated on goal difference and give them a lift going into the second half of the season.
Having Jim McIntyre sent off for retaliation just before half time certainly didn't help the cause although one wonders as to why the Raith player didn't get his walking papers either. It being his slap across McIntyre's face that provoked Jim to sock him square in the dish.
HALF TIME: Raith Rovers 0 - 0 Kilmarnock
The game would be decided deep into stoppage time. A hopeful hoof into the box from a Rovers free kick by Lennon, wasn't dealt with in any way, shape, or form and skittered straight into the net. A 1-0 loss and with alarm bells ringing in the Killie board room, manager Alex Totten was gone before the next game. Who could possibly replace him?
Team: Meldrum, MacPherson, Kerr, Lauchlan, Monty, McGowne, Henry, Reilly, Wright, McIntyre, McKee.
Subs: Mitchell, Brown & Holt for Wright, McKee & Henry.
