Hugh Spence was manager of Kilmarnock for 18 years from 1919 to 1937. He was promoted to team manager having previously been the club's secretary.
A selection committee had picked the team before that, making Spence Killie's first manager.
Spence had previously been assistant manager with Glasgow Rangers and led Killie to the 1928-29 Scottish Cup as well as another two finals in just 13 years. He was eventually fired in December 1937 after a string of bad results.
