06-02-2001 Buddies (N) Lge Cup Semi

All the key moments from Hampden Park for the CIS Insurance Cup semi-final between Kilmarnock and St Mirren.

2 mins Kilmarnock force two quick corners and goalkeeper Ludovic Roy has to come off his line quickly to prevent Freddy Dindeleux breaking clear.

3 mins Scott McKenzie has St Mirren's first attempt on goal, his 22-yard drive rising well over.

4 mins St Mirren's Mark Yardley rises above two defenders on the penalty spot to direct a Chris Kerr cross a couple of feet wide.

5 mins Killie striker Craig Dargo evades his marker at the back post but just fails to get a touch on a long, defence-splitting pass from Andy McLaren.

9 mins Saints' Paul Rudden beats two markers superbly, gets to the by-line and cuts the ball back into the path of Gary Bowman 15 yards out. But the midfield man delays his shot as he attempts to use his favourite left foot and his shot goes weakly into the arms of Gordon Marshall.

12 mins Another long ball into the St Mirren defence from Gus MacPherson finds McLaren unmarked, but the wide man aims his header into the ground and Roy grabs the ball easily.

14 mins MacPherson is booked for a clumsy challenge into the back of Kerr.

17 mins Scott Walker mis-kicks in front of his own penalty box. Dargo pounces but blasts his drive several yards over.

26 mins Full-back MacPherson is found in plenty of space wide on the right and powers in a 25-yard drive that is held at the second attempt by Roy.

29 mins St Mirren win their first corner. Bowman's cross is flicked on by Yardley's head and Ally Mitchell has to head off the line at the back post.

33 mins Gary Holt breaks clear wide on the right for Kilmarnock. The midfielder's low cross to the front post finds Paul Wright, but the striker's flick is successfully blocked by Roy.

38 mins Killie broke clear after a St Mirren corner came to nothing, but McLaren's low effort flies across the face of the goal and wide.

39 mins Kilmarnock take the lead when Wright fires in a hanging cross and Andy McLaren (right)  rises above Rickie Gillies and heads home from 10 yards.

40 mins Mitchell becomes the second Killie player to be shown the yellow card for a late, sliding tackle.

43 mins St Mirren are lucky not to concede a penalty when Sergei Baltacha takes the legs from Canero inside the box, although the Killie man had already lost control of the ball.

45 mins Kenny Clark blows for half-time with Kilmarnock deservedly 1-0 ahead.

47 mins St Mirren appeal for a penalty when Walker's shot canons off MacPherson inside the box.

50 mins Dargo's shot on the turn curls wide of the far post.

60 mins Tricky Angolan winger Jose Quitongo replaces McKenzie for St Mirren.

61 mins A low, 22-yard drive from Mitchell skids just wide.

65 mins Scotland Under-21 cap Hugh Murray replaces Bowman in the St Mirren midfield.

69 mins Kilmarnock score their second after clearing a St Mirren corner. Craig Dargo left & (right) races clear of Murray, teases Baltacha on the edge of the box and delivers a right-foot drive into the far corner of the net.

71 mins St Mirren striker Graham Fenton is replaced by Steven McGarry.

74 mins Christophe Cocard comes on for Wright.

78 mins Killie make it three from a McLaren free kick flighted to the back post. Holt rises above Baltacha at the back post and the Scotland midfielder heads down into the path of Canero, who pokes the ball home from 12 yards.

80 mins James Fowler and Mark Reilly replace Dargo and Mitchell.

90 mins The final whistle blows on a convincing victory that takes Kilmarnock into the final.
