FC Killie Edge Out Close Rivals!

Arsenal North LFC 3 - 4 FC Kilmarnock Girls
(SWFL Match - 2nd February 2003, 2.00pm Kick Off)

FC Kilmarnock had to fight hard to hold on to a win despite dominating the first half of the game. The Killie girls got off to a great start with trialist Sarah Paterson casually dribbling past the keeper and putting away her first shot of the game.

Many chances were created through some great team work and Paterson was unlucky to miss a powerful header from a corner. After some solo skill, Toni Masson was also unlucky to narrowly miss with a well struck volley.

However, Killie soon doubled their lead thanks to a fabulous shot by Sarah Paterson. 2-0 up, the girls were comfortable and looked to be favorites to win. However, shortly before half time, the weather suddenly changed to heavy snow and hail stones but the girls battled on. Eventually Toni Masson made it 3-0 with a well-taken strike from outside the box.

The Killie girls began to tire, allowing the home team to get more involved in the game. Sam Daziel went on to score a fabulous free kick from far outside the box, making it 4-0.

Things fell to bits in the last ten minutes and Killie began to struggle, seeing Arsenal pull the game back to 4-3. A lucky escape from defeat means the Killie girls are still in with a chance of winning the league.
